Representative Larry Gonzales (R-Round Rock) today addressed the Northwest Austin Republican Women (NWARW) at their monthly luncheon in Austin.
“Republican Women are the backbone of our party and I commend NWARW for their hard work, dedication and knowledge of the issues affecting our local communities and our State.
Representative Gonzales addressed issues ranging from the budget, to water rights to education. He spoke on the need for a strong career and technical education program:
“I live in an area where most of the kids graduate and go on to a 4-year university. That’s great. But I’m trying to capture 100% of the kids with something they can get excited about. I want the kids who are not going to attend a 4-year university to know that there can be something great for them around the corner if they stay in school and graduate.”
Rosemary Edwards, Chairman of the Travis County Republican Party said after the meeting:
“Representative Gonzales brings a wealth of experience to the Legislature both from his service in the last session and from previous sessions in key staff positions. He is a very valuable member in the role of Legislator/Educator. His remarks today helped me understand issues around education and water which will be front and center this session.”
The 83rd legislative session begins tomorrow, January 8th at noon. The swearing-in ceremony can be viewed from the House Gallery, or online via: http://www.house.state.tx.us/video-audio/.
